This time of year is so special. It’s the time where so many believers come to reflect on the death of our Savior and the magnitude of what His sacrifice means. In the midst of your remembering, may I draw your attention to a feast that is celebrated that foreshadows our Savior’s sacrifice.

“So you shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this same day I will have brought your armies out of the land of Egypt. Therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as an everlasting ordinance.” Exodus 12:17 (NKJV)

The Great Exodus. It’s the story of how the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob responds to the outcry of His people, who were enslaved to the powerhouse nation of its time—Egypt.

Exodus tells the story of a powerful Elohim setting himself apart from the world around to show that He is the one true Elohim.

The beauty and often overlooked fact about this day and feast, is that it is one our amazing God said to remember and keep for all our generations. It is to be a constant reminder of how Yahweh showed His people that there is no one like Him. It is to coincide with the truth that He is the same, yesterday, today and forever, and that the same God who did miraculous works by challenging the deities held sacred by the Egyptians, remembers His promise made to Abraham long ago. He is faithful to complete it.

Today, many believers in Messiah Yeshua, celebrate Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread to commemorate and honor the command to keep it for generations to come. It is an introspective time, where many physically clean their house to remove it of leaven, which is commanded to not be in the home. Leaven represents sin that is in our hearts. Paul talks of this very feast in 1 Corinthians.

“Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.” I Corinthians 5:7-8 (NKJV)

Paul says we are unleavened because of the Messiah’s sacrifice. We see the long awaited Messiah, Yeshua, is the promised Passover lamb.

The art of remembering this feast yearly is twofold. It points back to the beauty and significance of our Messiah dying on the cross and calls for us to be continually cleansing ourselves of sin.

How faithful is our God that He cares enough to share with us how to honor and remember the death of our Messiah. The Father made a way for us to commemorate the sacrifice of our Savior. He invites us to draw closer to Him and participate in this feast, which provides us the opportunity to have our hearts searched, cleansed, and ultimately renewed.

God honors when we come before Him with a sincere heart. He in return shows us what pleases His heart — a willing heart.

Beloved, keep honoring Him. Keep studying and seeking Him. May He meet you in ways you never dreamed or imagined.

As you continue to seek the Father during this time, I encourage you to go back and read the powerful story of Exodus. Remember that we have the privilege of following and serving this same powerful God. Allow the words to stir your heart, and seek His face so that you can continue to be transformed.

How beautiful it is that etched in His word, He shows us how to remember this time and the gift of His son.
