Jailbreak
By Lauren White
Love sings out
Where I am shackled.
I would cast down these walls,
Angel’s hands
Release the door.
I don’t want to stay, but
Softening within my bonds
Yields a gentler way.
If I keep eyeing chains, I can’t
Ease the chafe.
I wait in the dungeon
And share words with my
Sisters and brothers
Lying awake.
In the midnight hour,
We dirge and dance.
We cry for deliverance
And pray the earth quakes.
Until then, the Presence
Shackled with us
Salves and sits and sees.
