Advent III · Ponder The Paradox

Prepare: Light a candle.

Let it flicker and fill your small space with light.

Ponder: Read this passage

And she gave birth to her firstborn, a son.
She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger,
because there was no guest room available for them.

—Luke 2:15 (NIV)

Prompt: Ponder this paradox —

THE PARADOX OF letting god’s greatness
invade the smallness of who you are.

Sit in the silence and stillness for a short while.
Watch the candle’s flame flicker,
breathe.

Pour out your heart,
giving Christ space to come in,
space to fill.

You might cry. You mind find disappointment arise. You may notice restlessness in your heart and hands, the inability to sit still or focus. Bitterness. Envy. Judgement. You might feel pain sweep in heavy or you might feel alone. Tell Him about it.

He seeks room, not royalty—so, let Him into the mangy manger of your heart.

Let His greatness invade the smallness of who you are.

INHALE: I AM SMALL.
EXHALE: HE IS GREAT.
