Out-of-Body Experience

I wish I could look at each curve
From my own perspective
Instead of that of a man’s
Celebrate what my body does
How it lives in spite of waves of treachery
And insecurity
Feel its soft, supple muscle tense
As it trudges endlessly
See each layer of bone and skin and fat
As mine instead of a meal, tempting
The strange world’s hunting eyes
That tear and bite and devour
I long for my body to be mine
To be human, not some flimsy flower
That easily is trashed and tugged
By faults and flaws and others’ eyes
I wish my body was a temple
Instead of someone’s tempted demise
